Meet Kika

Kika is a bright, curious, and creative little girl with a big heart. Kay Thomas is the granddaughter of the real Pawpaw, who became her angel in 2024, and Kika is her nickname that he gave her. Through the character Kika, we see how children process love and loss. She channels her grief by holding onto her inner child, remembering the laughter, hugs, and stories she shared with her Pawpaw. Even when sadness creeps in, Kika’s imagination turns those feelings into something beautiful, whether it’s tracing letters, coloring pictures, or baking a cupcake to celebrate Pawpaw’s heavenly birthday. Her journey reminds young learners that it’s okay to miss someone, and that love continues to guide us forward.

A Cupcake for PawPaw

A Cupcake for Pawpaw is a tender and uplifting story about love, memory, and celebrating those we hold close in our hearts.

When Kika wakes up on the morning of Pawpaw’s birthday, she feels a little sad. Pawpaw isn’t here anymore, but she still remembers his laughter, his hugs, and all the sweet moments they shared. With her mom’s help, Kika decides to keep Pawpaw’s spirit alive in the most special way, by baking him a birthday cupcake using Grandma’s old recipe.

Together, they measure flour, stir sugar, and mix love into every step. When the cupcake is ready, Kika lights a candle and sings “Happy Birthday” to her heavenly Pawpaw.

She blows out the candle with a big wish that Pawpaw knows how much she loves and remembers him.

This heartfelt story shows children that it’s okay to miss someone they love and that small traditions, like baking a cupcake or sharing a memory, can help keep loved ones close forever.

A Cupcake for Pawpaw” gently teaches kids that love never goes away, even when the people we love are no longer here.
